Treatment consent procedure

What should be discussed and recorded before you consent to treatment.

Last updated:

An informed decision

Before treatment, discuss the proposed procedure, expected benefits, limitations, alternatives including no treatment, and treatment-specific risks with your practitioner. Ask questions and take the time you need to understand the information.

Medical information

Provide accurate and current medical history, medication, allergy and previous treatment information. Tell your practitioner about changes that may affect your suitability.

Risks and individual assessment

Risks depend on the procedure and your individual circumstances. A general website page or a generic consent form cannot replace a treatment-specific explanation. Your practitioner must explain relevant risks, side effects, contraindications, aftercare and escalation arrangements before treatment. Outcomes vary and are not guaranteed.

Recording your choice

The treatment, consultation, questions and consent are recorded with the client and practitioner details and date. You can decline treatment or withdraw consent before it takes place. Photography, training and marketing permissions are considered separately. This information page does not itself record consent or authorise treatment.
